2025
Thursday May 29, 2025 – 11:00 a.m. CT
Freedom from ASF Model – Dr. Jette Christensen, DVM, PhD.
Two scenario tree models (STM) for freedom of animal disease populated with data from Canada West Swine Health Intelligence Network (CWSHIN)
CWSHIN serves western swine producers, swine herd practitioners, and governments to improve swine health, production, and the economic prosperity of the sector.
In CWSHIN, we run two scenario tree models (STM) for freedom of animal disease – the blister model and the African swine fever (ASF) freedom model. These STM share some features because they share data sources such as PigTrace data on the reference population, survey data on premises served by respondents and contacts per month. In addition, the ASF model included data on ASF rule-out testing and pathological examinations.
The STM accumulate evidence of freedom from infectious vesicular diseases and ASF, but they can never stand-alone as “proof of freedom”.
The presentation will provide an overview of the STM and the interpretation of their results.
